This method is based on command prompt that will easily format your portable device or external drive, and then you can easily use your device without any  problem and it will work smoothly. After formatting your external device all the files and documents will be erased from your USB drive. And if the device contains any important files, then you can use recovery tool to backup your data or files. So just follow the simple steps that shown below.

#Changing the Drive Letter –

Sometimes your PC is unable to assign the drive letter to your storage media this might be the reason the files on it can’t be accessed. Here how you can fix/repair your pen drive or external drives by assigning a correct drive letter.

Step 1:

First you need connect your media storage to your computer. Presently you have to right tap on My Computer and afterward tap on ‘Manage’.

Step 2:

Then you need to click on ‘Disk Management’ 

Step 3:

Now you need to tap on  right click on your storage media and then choose the option ‘Change Drive Letter And Paths‘.

Step 4:

Now you have to pick a drive letter starting from the drop menu and after that snap OK.

#Reinstalling The Drivers:

Sometimes your PC unable to detect  your storage devices. So you need to reinstall the drivers.

Step 1:

First you need to tap right click on ‘My Computer’ then click on ‘Manage’.

Step 2:

Now you need to tap on ‘Device Manager’.

Step 3:

Then select ‘Disk Drivers‘.

Step 4:

Now select uninstall and click OK.

Step 5:

At last remove your storage device and restart your Computer. After restarting your PC again connect your pen drive and your Computer will detect it.

Step 1:

First connect your pen drive or hard drive to your PC.

Step 2:

Now tap on start menu and type Command Prompt and click on enter. Now type ‘DISKPART’ in command prompt and click OK.

Step 3:

Now type list disk, And all the disks are listed there. Now you will see your external drive and note down it’s disk number.

Step 4:

Now type select disk and tap on enter

 Step 5:

Now type Clean and press enter.

Step 6:

Type  create partition primary and then press enter.

Step 7:

Now type Active and tap enter button.

Step 8:

Then enter the Command Prompt select partition 1.

Step 9:

At last type format fs=fat32 and tap on enter button.
